Region

Campania is known for three grape varietals that were originally derived from the Greeks: Aglianico, Fiano, and Greco. Aglianico creates southern Italy's most famous red wine Taurasi (the only southern wine to receive Italy's premium DOCG status). Fiano and Greco are two ancient white varietals that surprisingly thrive in the hot arid climate. Both wines grow well in the volcanic soils near Mount Vesuvius / Pompeii, which give the wines a unique ashy aroma. Fiano has a waxy texture and spicy undertones that matches well with fish. Greco is acidic and nutty and should be consumed within a few years of being bottled. Greco pairs well with seafood and light pasta.region map
